New Balance Indoor Nationals produces many fierce competitors from all across the United States who travel to New York to participate in the meet. The boys who qualified were John Padilla (11), Charlie Dickinson (11), Trevor Kattenberg (12), and Egan Kattenberg (12), who ran 4 by 1 mile, Johnny Cacciatore(12) who ran the 2 mile, and Noah Mumme (11) who competed in the pole vault. They left Thursday around 6pm on their flight to New York. Their trip lasted from Thursday to Sunday, when they flew home, which gave them time to go sight-seeing and try the famous New York pizza.

Cacciatore’s race was Friday around 11:20, gaining the attention of most of Satellite’s classes, including Mrs. Balch’s physics class, Mr. Strattan’s newspaper class, and many others who cheered him on from a distance. Cacciatore  placed 15th overall out of 27 runners  in the emerging elite 2 mile, running 9:35.08. Although it was not his goal time, after being sick , he figured it was a good time. After his race, the team ate lunch at a restaurant near the track and visited Times Square.

Mumme vaulted Saturday around 12 p.m. He placed 38th overall, jumping 14.4-36. Although he did not perform like he had wanted to, it’s very hard to get into the pole vaulting events in Nationals because of tough competition. Mumme was the only Floridian to take the trip to New York and is the best in the state of Florida for vaulting.

The boy’s 4 by 1 mile placed 9th overall, with a time of 18:13.81. The first leg of the 4 by 1 was run by Trevor Kattenberg, who ran 4:31.15 for the mile. He then handed the baton to Dickinson who split  9:01.94 and ran 4:30.79 for the mile. Egan Kattenberg ran the third leg with a split of 13:36.59 and a mile time of 4:34.65. Padilla finished with an overall time of 18:13.81 and a mile time of 4:37.22.

Overall, the trip was said to be the trip of a lifetime. They made many memories, and a final trip for the seniors this year who will be going off next year to run at college.
