District Play-Offs: A Recap

Last week, the boys’ Varsity baseball team participated in the Class 5A District 9 Playoff Tournament to determine the next District Champion. The series, being held at Satellite, gave the Scorps the comfort of playing on their own field throughout the tournament. The Scorps opened the series on Wednesday, facing the Astronaut War Eagles, winning 5-3. This game would set the tone for the entirety of the series. The following night, the Scorps took on Holy Trinity, in a close and suspenseful game. They came out victorious in this nail-bitter, winning by one run, 5-6. Junior Kole Gemmell reflects on the surprising game stating, “Play-off baseball gets wild. We’ve mercy ruled [Holy Trinity] twice this year, but [this] was a super close game.” The Terriers dominated the Melbourne Central Catholic Hustlers (7-4), who were the favored team to win this play-off series. This upset lead to an unexpected matchup in the Championship game, where Satellite faced Titusville for the win.  “We have momentum going for a championship that we haven’t won in a while, but Titusville beat MCC, who was ranked higher than us, so they have momentum too,” Gemmell adds. The championship game went in favor of the Scorps who stung the competition, 2-6, in a close game until the last few innings. The Scorps have not won a District Championship since 2013, so this was a huge win. Senior Marshall Dreyer reflects, “[The win] felt really awesome.” Dreyer adds, “I’ve been waiting on this since I came to Satellite and to finally make it a reality is really special.”

The Scorps will travel to Orlando as they face Avon Park in the first game of Regionals.
