Established alongside the school in 1962, the Telstar is the student newspaper of Satellite Senior High School. A homage to the community of Satellite Beach’s roots in space exploration, the Telstar was named after a satellite launched from Brevard County bearing the name. The Telstar satellite was the first communications satellite, making it an apt namesake for our newspaper. Printed for decades, the Telstar was first launched online in the spring of 2016. The staff of the Telstar also produce the Cyclone, established in 2014, a literary magazine that is published bi-annually.

The Telstar is a constellation of Satellite High School’s most creative, most conscientious, and most perceptive. Together, the staff works tirelessly to produce content on a regular basis that informs the public, encourages school pride, and provides complex commentary on social and local issues.

The Telstar is maintained by a staff divided into five sections: News, the heart of journalistic exploration, Sports, the apex of diligent and informative reporting, Student Life, the pulse of the high school experience, Opinion, the soul of civil debate, and Creative Media, the manifestation of the wonders of the senses. The Telstar is managed by a board of executive leaders that ensure the smooth operation of the newspaper. These executive board members contribute experience, ingenuity, and dedication to the spirit of the class. The class is essentially student run under the guidance of an adviser. These students ensure the future of the Telstar by adapting it to the changing interests and technology of the modern age.
